As a Lakeland family photographer, I am often invited into some of the most meaningful seasons of my clients’ lives. New babies, growing families, first birthdays, tiny milestones and all of the beautiful ordinary moments in between.

There is something especially exciting about photographing a family when they are holding onto news they haven’t quite shared with the rest of the world yet.

This pregnancy announcement session was one of those evenings.

I have had the joy of photographing this beautiful family before. This made documenting this next chapter in their story even more meaningful. Watching families grow through the years is one of my favorite parts of being a Lakeland family photographer. Over time, the photographs become more than images from individual sessions. Together, they begin to tell the story of a family.

Photographing the Beginning of a New Chapter

For their pregnancy announcement photos, we kept everything relaxed, natural and centered around their family.

Their children were able to move, explore and simply be themselves while we documented this season exactly as it feels right now.

I especially loved the ultrasound photographs held between little hands. There were some quiet moments between mom and dad. And as always, lots of movement with the children and all of those beautifully imperfect in-between moments that make family photographs feel like your family.

Pregnancy announcement photography does not have to feel overly styled or complicated. Some of my favorite images happen when the location is beautiful, the wardrobe feels effortless and everyone has space to simply be together.

The result is a gallery that celebrates the baby who is coming while also preserving this family exactly as they are before everything changes again.

From Pregnancy Announcement to Maternity and Newborn Photographs

One of the greatest privileges of my work is being able to document more than one chapter of a family’s story.

A pregnancy announcement may be the beginning. A few months later comes a maternity photography session, followed by newborn photographs once that long-awaited little one finally arrives.

And somehow, before you know it, that tiny newborn is sitting, walking and joining the rest of the family for annual portraits.

It happens unbelievably quickly.

That is why I believe so deeply in documenting these seasons along the way. You are not simply creating photographs for right now. You are creating a visual history of your family—one your children may someday be able to hold in their own hands.
