There are certain locations that just do something different to the light, and this Orlando garden is one of them. As a Tampa/Lakeland maternity photographer who also photographs families throughout Orlando and Central Florida, I have a short list of favorite outdoor locations, and this one climbs a little higher every time I visit.

Spanish moss draped over old oak trees, brick pathways winding through the gardens, a white pergola tucked among the greenery, and that soft golden light that appears right before sunset—it is the kind of setting that makes everything feel a little more magical.

But this particular evening was really about something much sweeter: two people waiting to meet their first baby.

Meeting This Sweet Couple

There is something especially tender about photographing a couple during their first pregnancy. Everything still feels new. There is so much anticipation tucked into the smallest moments—the way his hand naturally found her belly or the way she leaned back into him without even thinking about it.

As an Orlando maternity photographer, I get to witness so many beautiful seasons of motherhood, but there is a particular kind of wonder that comes with waiting for your first baby. It is quiet and exciting all at once, and it is one of my favorite things to document.

They chose a soft, simple wardrobe that paired beautifully with the deep greens of the garden and the texture of the Spanish moss. A flowing white skirt, a simple top, and bare feet in the grass kept everything effortless and timeless. Nothing competed with the surroundings or distracted from what mattered most: their connection and this baby they already love so much.

Why I Love This Orlando Garden for Maternity Photos

If you have followed my work for a while, you know I am always drawn to locations with texture, movement, and a little bit of story. This garden has all three.

Between the moss-draped trees along the water, manicured hedges lining the brick pathways, open grassy areas, and the white pergola glowing in the evening light, there is something beautiful around nearly every corner. We were able to move through several areas of the garden during their maternity session, which gave their final gallery so much variety without ever needing to leave the property.

That is one of the reasons I love outdoor maternity sessions. Natural locations bring depth and softness to photographs in a way that feels completely effortless. Instead of staying in one spot, we can wander, follow the light, and let the session unfold naturally.

The Moments I Never Want to Miss

As beautiful as this location was, the scenery was never my favorite part of this session.

What I loved most was watching these two simply exist together in the final months before their family changes forever. Of course we created the portraits every parent hopes to have—the hands resting on her belly, foreheads pressed together, and that classic maternity silhouette near the water—but some of my favorite images came from everything that happened between those moments.

The laughter when a pose did not go exactly as planned. The way she looked down at her belly when she thought no one was paying attention. The little gestures between the two of them that probably happen every day but will feel entirely different once their baby is finally here.

Those are the pieces I am always looking for.
