Our first NYC trip without kids in nearly a decade was both exhilarating and rejuvenating. We adventurously walked 10 miles a day, only taking brief subway rides. On our last night, snowflakes danced in the city lights, adding to the magic. Many friends asked for our itinerary, so here it is – a curated guide!
We arrived at LaGuardia and checked into our hotel in the Flatiron District. This area’s charm and central location won us over. We spent the evening enjoying Italian cuisine at Olio e Piu, followed by gelato at Anita Gelato, a tradition we love each time we visit. You can’t go wrong with any flavor!
The next morning, we ventured to Union Square Organic Market, filled with fresh produce and local goods. Next, we went to Angelina for a rich hot chocolate set the tone for the day, and was perfect for New York City during winter. Breakfast at Crispy Heaven, a hidden gem, was a culinary revelation. The bacon bread sandwich was a standout, and the homemade butter added a delightful touch.
We visited the World Trade Center Memorial and strolled through the Oculus Mall. As the sun set, we had cocktails at Boom at The Standard Hotel, with stunning views. Dinner at Buddakan offered a sensory feast, paired with an ambiance to match the delicious Asian cuisine.
The following day began with a delightful breakfast at Friend of a Farmer, where the apple pancakes and bacon left a lasting impression. We spent the morning exploring bookstores and indulging in salted caramel coffee at Ralph’s, followed by a warm cookie at Levain. Pro tip- bring some home for a delicious souvenir!
Lunch at La Mercerie in Soho was a refined experience, with French Onion soup that was divine. The elegant decor and impeccable service made it a highlight of our trip. Our evening at the Polo Bar was a classy, lux dining affair, complete with popover rolls and a decadent brownie ice cream sundae. Pro tip- make your reservation exactly 30 days in advance and expect to wait at least an hour to do so- worth it!
A spontaneous decision led us to the Westminster Dog Show at The Garden, an unexpected delight that perfectly aligned with our love for dogs.
On our final morning, we took one last stroll through the city, savoring a coffee from Ralph’s before heading to the airport. Our whirlwind New York City in the winter experience was a tapestry of unforgettable experiences and fun.
